In the run up to The Raw Transformation Experience (it starts in just 9 days!) there is, as you can imagine, a lot going on.
Katie and I are both running to a checklist that would put the army to shame : )
What you probably won’t know is that in a former life I was known as “The Spreadsheet Queen” and honestly, I’m still worthy of the crown – we have spreadsheets for everything here!
One of the biggest projects on my list right now is the overseeing of the design work and printing, and this is for both the event itself and the Living Magically on Raw program – everything is looking AWESOME! It is so exciting to see designs come to life and then immediately impact people’s worlds. Right now there are a TON of design-related projects going on, and I’m also starting to commission designs for the next big thing, so we’re working with four different companies/designers to make things happen – one in Scotland, two in England and one in New Zealand. And then there’s my awesome web designer in the US – so you can bet that life is interesting!
Juggling my own workload while managing the designers and approving (or not) things as they come in means that honestly I have to be on the ball. It’s at times like these where as much as my focus around raw food is usually about the magical living aspect of it, in this moment I am truly thankful that it gives me the focus, stamina and confidence to make things happen and make them happen on time. This is in itself a great reason to eat more raw – you really get laser-focused and get things done.
And yet today, when I could have continued working into the evening without stopping for more than dinner, I decided “No - Luke and I are going swimming!” and off we went at 5pm to the lovely new health club I’ve been raving about.
And what a lovely time we had too!
When we were done we drove home a different way, went shopping en route and then arrived home for a quick dinner before bedtime for Luke and continuing with work for me.
But the lesson here is not simply about taking a break and doing fun stuff (and we all need this, even though I do have the tendency to push myself harder than is often good for me), it’s also about challenging our beliefs around time.
You see we all can be guilty of saying, “there’s not enough time” and yet when we stop, exhale and really think about things, oftentimes there is always something we can do differently to either make time or save time – and often that is just to B—R—E—A—T—H—E.
One of my favourite authors, Gill Edwards (who actually wrote “Living Magically” which is one of my all-time favourite books and yes, absolutely the inspiration for the work I have been doing) is called “Soft Time”. In it she discusses how she believes that there is such a thing as hard time, where things feel solid, rigid and as if we’re up against the clock, and “soft time” where we seem to meld with another dimension and somehow, even though we feel as if we’re going slower, everything still manages to get done.
I agree with Gill about just everything (check out her books if you haven’t already, she really is amazing) and this is no exception, and tonight I wanted to have a play with “soft time” and see what could be achieved.
And what was achieved? A fabulous time with Luke, some exercise for us both, a great drive in the fresh air with the roof down, a big shop for food, dinner, spending down time with Luke before bed and then, when all was calm, I settled down to tidy my desk, organise my checklist and catch up with myself and found that I had enough energy to do all of that, take care of some more design emails, talk with Russell for almost an hour about our food for next week, check some other emails and catch up on blogging.
Just breathing and moving into soft time has really worked its magic for me today. It all starts with the belief that time is as fluid as everything else in this world and we don’t need to be its prisoner. When we take a step back and decide that there IS enough time and it will be OK, guess what happens?
I challenge you to have a play with soft time over the next 24 hours and see what you learn about yourself and time itself.
Let me know!
